A large diplomatic envelope officially used by Konohagakure no sato would arrive on the desk of the Kazekage, it would have upon it:


Greetings and all due salutations Uzume Sakizaki Lady Kazekage,

It is not without diligence to say that our countries  suffered pointless conflicts in the past, and that merely trivial steps towards that peace have been made to resolve such conflicts. There is a great deal that Konohagakure and Sunagakure have squabbled over in the past few decades. Many lives were taken without due thoughtfulness to diplomacy. Diplomacy that could mean security for our peoples, the opportunity for which I hope has not yet been squandered by the mistakes made by our predecessors.

In light of such due diligence and diplomacy that I extend this olive branch to you, my esteemed colleague, and leader of Sunagakure no Sato.

That Konohagakure may be called upon to defend the Land of Wind from outside invasion, and that Sunagakure may be called upon to defend the Land of Fire from outside invasion. Provided that neither village takes overtly aggressive action to cause the endangerment of their country by invasion. That such actions may be known as a Mutual Defense Agreement between the powers that be of Konohagakure and Sunagakure.

Though it would dishonor the loyal service of the fallen to ask you to forget their sacrifices for both our nations, I humbly entreat that you view such sacrifices as leading us to this position, a position in which we take hands as allies to secure a more prosperous future for both our villages.

Uzume scowled in open disgust as she read the missive from the Hokage. Was that bastard attempting to mock her at her moment of greatest weakness? She ran the possibilities through her mind, attempting to consider every possibility as to why the Hokage would choose this moment in time to attempt to establish peaceful relations with her own village. No matter how hard she thought, however, she simply couldn't figure out how such a bold move would greatly benefit Konoha as a whole. Moreover, she couldn't figure out how her own village could benefit from such relations. This would only make the other villages more wary of their supposed alliance and likely more aggressive at their borders.

No, this wouldn't do at all. Rather than attempting to form some sort of reply of agreement or disagreement to the Kage's terms, Uzume instead chose silence, leaving the letter on her desk without writing a reply. Perhaps later, but certainly not now when her village was already teetering and unsteady.

Akira sat in his office and signed another paper with his fancy fountain pen, stopping to fill it and noticing that one of his advisers stood in his doorway silently watching to see if the Hokage was upset, it was apparent he was more bored than anything else. Seeing this the man in full Jounin garb spoke, "What of the matter with Sakizaki?"

Placing his fancy pen down onto its ritual rest and giving a deep sigh Akira flexed his hand balling it into a fist then relaxing it before repeating the exercise over again. "Wait and see. I never put a time limit to the offer of mutual defense."

"Do we really need the help of that village?" The adviser questioned back rubbing his goatee and an visibly cocking his head to the side.

"Just as no man is an island no nation can be an island unto themselves." Akira's deft response elicited nothing from his councilor and so he picked up his fancy fountain pen and continued the work upon his desk.
